Made it!
Made it!

I locked my suitcases about 15 minutes ago. There is only my hand luggage remaining. Now I have time to savor the anticipation.

When we reach the Emperor Penguin colony near Snow Hill, we can be on the ice for as much as 8 hours, if conditions are optimum. The Expedition Team will set up a tent in which to warm ourselves. They’ll serve hot soup. Sounds almost decadent, doesn’t it? Think again…we know the temperature was -15C at least once this season – if we had had bottled water the water would have frozen. Hot soup does two things – warms up your insides and rehydrates. My guess is that it does both with less energy than trying to keep crates of bottled water from freezing.

Safe expedition travel – adventure – really is in the details.
