Asado is Argentina’s twist on barbecue. The grill they use in restaurants holds an entire side of lamb, links and links of sausages and whole chickens. Our 4×4 off-road adventure simplified the grill, but not the amount of meat. Two tenderloins, a yard of sausages, and bits and pieces of beast I couldn’t recognize. A selection of salad fixings. The best of Mendoza malbec and dessert. Open air, around the pit, thunder in the air, a breeze from the Pacific off the lake. We had hiked for an hour along the shoreline. That’s after a couple of hours bouncing around in the back of a land rover. At one moment we slid forward, because the land rover was negotiating a steep incline. So steep it appeared to be standing on its front grill! There was a soupcon of adrenaline with every twist and turn. Fabulous fun!
