Packing and repacking and repacking…

Pack half what you think you need.
Pack half what you think you need.

Men aren’t going to understand this…except perhaps documentarians that travel with ditty bags large enough to be used as body bags. I’ve been packing for 3 weeks. I’ve already unpacked and packed twice. Tomorrow is the third and final time. If I can’t close my cases and duffles by tomorrow night, I’m traveling baggage free!

I complicated things by extending my trip before the expedition and after. That means I need 3 wardrobes. And the shoes…my, oh, my…I need a suitcase for footwear alone!

Only the packing is complicated – extending the trip was easy because we have a flights and extensions department with really talented folk who know the ins and outs of keeping the adventure going. I’ll be on a catamaran on the Beagle Channel for a day. I’m going to a penguin colony I believe. After the voyage – as you know – I’ll be spending a few days in Chile’s wine country.

You can see my problem – clothes for a crisp temperate spring day in Ushuaia. Clothes for sailing through Antarctica. Then a spring day in wine country – that’s another wardrobe. I know, I know – to have such a problem. I’ll stop whining now.
