This blog post first appeared on http://www.discover-the-world.co.uk/. Penguin enthusiast (and Discover The World's Assistant Polar Product Manager) Gary travelled to Antarctica with Quark Expeditions in December 2014 to fulfil a lifelong ambition.
It takes a special type of person to do a polar plunge – and we want you to jump in with us! Quark Expeditions is participating in the Great Canadian Chill, a popular polar bear dip event to raise awareness and money to battle children’s cancer.
These plunges take place in various venues across Canada, but Quark will be participating in Toronto, Canada, and during our Antarctic expeditions.
It was an exciting day indeed when 88 Quark Expeditions passengers became part of polar history.
In this special guest blog post, former Quark Expeditions President and CEO, Hans Lagerweij, shares some insights with us on his new role, and on what to expect on his upcoming Antarctic Express: Fly South, Cruise the Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falklands fly-cruise.
Dr. Tom Hart runs the Penguin Lifelines project at Oxford University and the Zoological Society of London, through which he monitors Antarctic wildlife using camera trapping, volunteer photos and population genetics. Tom’s PhD at Imperial College and the British Antarctic Survey investigated penguin foraging behavior around South Georgia.
Tom is just coming off of the Sea Spirit where he was our special guest lecturer, and conducting research for Penguin Lifelines.
